"Walking in a Winter Water-Land!"

This year LifePlan Financial and PerCuro Clinical Research Christmas Party was at The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea!

The evening was truly a Winter Water-land! The music of acoustic guitarist, Mr. Brad Prevedoros was beautifully played through-out the evening. The evening included delicious appetizers prepared and catered by Cooks Day Off.

Many thanks to David and Leeanna Bulinckx for another creative Christmas Party!

LifePlan Financial Group's 23rd Annual Wayne Joyce Memorial Associate Appreciation Event

We would like to thank everyone who attended the 23rd Annual Wayne Joyce Memorial Associate Appreciation Event. The event was a great success. The day started off with some pretty strong winds, but our happy golfers didn’t let this get them down.
As always we couldn’t have asked for a better day to play golf and have some fun (especially if the wind was blowing in the right direction for you). All while raising money for a very worthy cause. From the support of our dedicated sponsors we had three great prizes for our charity raffle. So with everyone’s outstanding generosity we were able to raise $1,480 for Lions’ many charitable causes. $750 of which will be going to support
BC Lions Camp Shawnigan for Children With Disabilities

Congratulations to the following prize winners from the tournament!
WINNERS:
Steve and Annette (KP)
Steve and Amy (Longest Drive)
Eric and Diane (Putting Contest)

Help One Family by Protecting Another

Last year I wrote about our amazing experience of helping families in our community through the Christmas Hamper Program with George Jay Elementary School. This made me realize that charity is something we need to incorporate into our day to day business while helping our clients protect themselves and their families.

After watching good friends of mine go through the challenges of having a son diagnosed with cancer at less than a year old I realized that this is something very few people are ever prepared to deal with. During his diagnosis and treatment they spent the better part of a year in Vancouver while he was in BC Children’s Hospital. They even went through the heart wrenching experience of being told he was cancer free only to be forced to go back in a few months when new issues presented themselves, proving the cancer was not yet done wreaking havoc on their lives and the life of their precious little boy.

It’s a crushing thought and one that no parent ever wants to face. But the fact remains... It happens. And there’s no rhyme or reason for who it affects and why. If that was to ever happen, as a parent we would want to be there 100% for our child. Absolutely nothing would be more important! But you have to ask yourself. Could you? Could you really take a year off to be by your child’s side? Your company Disability plan isn’t going to pay you anything, cause you’re not sick. So where would the money come from? Your savings? Your RRSP? The fact is, it won’t matter. Because you’ll do anything you can to be there for them, no matter what it costs.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can be there for your child while still protecting your family from the financial hardship that such an event can place on them. So you can focus on what matters most. Your child’s health and survival. Bringing me back to the beginning... How can we incorporate charity into our day-to-day business at LifePlan?

So as of February 15th, we along with Desjardins Financial Security will be donating 25% of the Annual Premium from all Children’s Harmony & Harmony plans placed in force by April 30th to the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island. By protecting your children and families from the devastation of a Critical Illness, you will be helping other families on Vancouver Island already facing the challenges of having a sick child.

Please help us make a difference! My goal is to raise $2,500. I myself have experienced the amazing difference places funded by this foundation make. My daughter was in Ledger House in 2014 and it saved her life. I would like to now help them so they can continue to help families and children here and on the Island. Making a Difference This Christmas...

As a parent nothing warms your heart more than seeing your child’s face light up when they wake to find their stocking overflowing with goodies and the presents left carefully under the tree from Santa. The joy and innocence in believing, it’s moments like this that make being a parent so rewarding.

But imagine if you will a Christmas morning without presents or stockings filled with chocolates and toys. The sounds of joy and laughter are replaced by disappointment and tears. For many families right here in Victoria, Christmas marks a day that parents struggle most with. These parents like you and I want nothing more than to be able to provide these things so easily taken for granted, but they just don’t have the means, leaving them defeated and distressed.

I can only imagine how this feels. I know personally I never want to let my little girl down. I’ve been lucky to have the support of an amazing family. And although we’ve had some hard times where money was tight, we never had to go without a Christmas.

The thought of this is heartbreaking and although we’ll never be able to make it right for every family living in poverty in Victoria, myself, my fellow Advisors and our incredible team at LifePlan endeavored to make it better for five of these families.

Now we didn’t quite meet our goal, but as one of the families had 6 children and another had 4, I think all in all, it was a huge success. With the help of  our Advisors and Foresters Financial we raised $1,550 giving us enough to put together and deliver Christmas Hampers complete with toys, clothing and food to four very deserving families referred to us by George Jay School. Truly a team effort, Ariane collected the funds, Yuee shopped for all the kids and bought all the goods contained in each hamper. Caitlin wrapped it all and Yuee, Caitlin, Thea, Brandi and Ariane delivered them to each family.

One family was a single father and his young daughter. She has a disability and her mother just died in the spring.  Dad and daughter had moved to Victoria from up island to attempt to start again and move on from this painful event. He was working before his wife's death but hasn't been able to since then. When Yuee and Caitlin came back from delivering the hamper they were beaming with joy from the heartfelt appreciation this father expressed to them.

It’s funny, a good friend of mine once said, “It’s almost selfish how good giving can feel”. He’s right! The joy this has provided us all has been better than any gadget or thing we could have received. It’s brought us all together and it’s shown us that with a little effort we really can make a difference.

I’ve personally been inspired by this and am looking forward to 2017 where together we’ll be heading up many more projects and charitable fundraising events at LifePlan with a focus on kids and families. So keep an eye out for more info early in the new year. In the meantime, click here for a list of great ways to get involved. You never know, the joy you feel might just be the best gift you receive this year… I know it has been for me.
